Description:

This brief article notes that material and spatial practices were key to medieval Christianity. By widening the field of inquiry from objects considered art to material culture, Williamson argues we can include many more objects, the environment in which the objects were used and the people who interacted with them.

This is a cogent introduction to both medieval Christian religious practices and the definition and uses of material culture prior to the museum visit.
